A Midwesterner at heart, Jody was born in Illinois and lived in Iowa, Wisconsin and Missouri, before settling in Traverse City in 1991. A self-proclaimed “perma fudgie”, Jody feels that living in this area is like being on permanent vacation- enjoying the crystal clear waters, abundant woodlands and astounding scenery. Soon celebrating his 30th year of marriage to his wife, Lisa, he is the father of three children and three grandchildren, all of whom live in Traverse City. Jody is the Director of Retail Media for Britten Banners, working with shopping center developers throughout the US on large format advertising media within their malls.
Jody and his wife were involved in competitive dancing on the national level from1993, when the worldwide United Country Western Dance Council first opened the door to them, until 2002. Throughout the 1990’s they captured overall wins across the country, in places such as Atlanta, St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, and Minneapolis to name a few. The pinnacle of their dance career was a 3rd place overall finish at the 1999 UCWDC World Championships. Although 2002 was their last year of competition, they still continue to instruct locally. Through his participation in SwingShift and the Stars, Jody hopes to inspire more people to dance for entertainment and exercise value, including his SwingShift partner, while also raising funds for local charities.
