Matt Madion

Matt Madion

Traverse City is the place to be for Matt Madion, who enjoys living in Northern Michigan for the recreational opportunities and the people.  He has found that there is something here for everyone, from skiing and snowboarding in the winter, to boating, watersports, biking and hiking in the summer and hunting and fishing all year long!  Matt knows he is not alone in his appreciation of the natural resources, he believes that this is what makes the people of Northern Michigan so special- they want to help preserve the beauty of the place we call home.  The oldest of 7 children, Matt has 22 nieces and nephews, most under the age of 13, and is married with 3 sons of his own (20, 17 and 13 years old).

His local claim to fame is as an Ophthalmologist at Grand Traverse Ophthalmology Clinic, where he performs cataract and Lasik eye surgery and treats medical conditions of the eye.  He has been intrigued by the SwingShift and the Stars concept of taking individuals with no dance experience and teaching them to perform to benefit charity, and is honored to have been selected to participate this year.  Although all our charities are important for the specific needs they serve in the community, his charity of choice, Michael’s Place, was supportive of his family last winter when his brother-in-law died unexpectedly.  This compassionate non-profit was proactive, organized and caring in providing professional counseling and support for 5 young children that had just lost their father.  Matt believes that they are truly fulfilling their mission and deserve the community support and attention they will receive through this competition.
